Fishing the Day Away by James Curnock | ||
James Curnock was born in Bristol, Southwest England in 1812. He became well known for his country scenes and went on to exhibit at The Royal Academy in London from 1847-1862, where his art proved popular among leading patrons. Several of his paintings are today held in the collection of the Bristol City Art Gallery. This signed and dated (1858) oil on canvas is presented in a hand-made giltwood frame. |

Portrait of Mrs. Bradley

Born in Manchester in 1801 William Bradley became an eminent portrait artist of his time despite him not receiving any artistic training at all. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1823 and 1845 and won many important commissions including the Prime Minister of the time. This oil on canvas painting is of his favourite sitter, his wife. Bradley’s work now hangs in several museums in London including the National Portrait Gallery and the British Art collection. |

The Seamstress by Adrien-Henri Tanoux | ||
Adrien-Henri Tanoux was born in the Mediterranean port of Marseille in 1865 and received his formal artistic training under Leon Bonnat at the prestigious Ecole Des Beaux-Art in Paris. As a highly skilled artist he was a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon where he was made a member in 1905. Tanoux also won an honourable mention at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris, and two medals in 1894 and 1895 in further exhibitions. Tanoux's work can today be found in the collections of museums in Paris, Marseille, and Chambery. Tanoux strove to capture femininity and this signed and dated (1909) oil on canvas is a fine example of his work. |

Tuning The Harp by Arnaldo Tamburini | ||
Arnaldo Tamburini was born in 1843 in Florence where he received his formal artistic training. Although he exhibited in Florence and Venice little is known of his private life. Tamburini was a fine painter of people and portraits and his work know hangs in the public museum in Pisa. This signed and dated (1880) oil on canvas is presented in a hand-made giltwood frame. |

artist Joseph Herst indistinctly signed the piece. The scene depicts the
gamekeeper with his hounds on their return to the thatched cottage where his
wife and young child are waiting. Joseph Herst was a French artist, painting in the 19th century. He was known for his animal, landscape and marine subjects, he also painted in watercolours. Here, the artist, Eduardo Gelli, portrays a courting couple in a kitchen interior, the gentleman in flamboyant attire, seated on a wooden bench; the girl standing and dressed in a simple costume. An Italian painter of portraits, historical and genre scenes. Born at Savone in 1852, he died in Florence in 1933. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Saint-Luc. He made his debut in 1873, and exhibited in Munich between 1888 and 1890. In 1886 he was commissioned to paint a portrait of the Austrian Emperor. Jalabert was French and born in Carcassonne in 1815. He studied at the school of fine arts in Paris and in 1840 entered the Atelier of Paul Deloroche. He exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1842-1849. His works are in museums in Carcassonne, Marseille, and Nimes. This particular painting is an oil on canvas and is presented in a beautiful 19th century frame with leaf and berry running pattern and lattice relief. This is a very fine example of the artist work and was executed 1880. |

Portrait of Eleanor (1839-1895) and Mary Ann Rickards (1841-1926), full length. Eleanor in a white dress with flowers in a basket by her side, and Mary Ann in a red dress with flowers in her hair, in a landscape. Eleanor married Walter Rickards and Mary Ann married William Wegg. Both were daughter of Samuel Rickards of Acton. William SALTER, RBA (1804-1875) Member of the Royal Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street. He studied under James Northcote (1822-27), travelled in Italy, spent some years in Florence, returning to London in 1833. He exhibited at the Royal Academy 1825-45 and at British Institution, but mainly at Suffolk Street (101 works) where he was Vice-Presidnet. He painted portraits, historical genre.
