Jove Wang

A native of China, Jove Wang is known for his expressive and energetic oil paintings. His technical agility found in the swift movements of his brushstrokes precisely captures both atmospheric moods and smallest details of his subject matter. Wang cherishes the importance of sincere communication in his own artwork: “When we judge a piece of art, the most important thing is not technique but does if have the deepest of feeling.”

From the time he was seven Wang studied under the master painter Gang Gu, who encouraged him to draw everything he saw. It was from this early artistic training, from an artist who himself had studied in Russia, that Wang received a firm basis in European stylistic traditions. At seventeen he entered the Jilian College of Fine Arts and Crafts, and later continued his education at the prestigious China Fine Arts Institute (formerly the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts) in Beijing. In 1990 Wang immigrated to the United States, settling in California, where he is now a Signature Member of the California Art Club.

Among Wang’s many artistic accomplishments are his “Best in Show” Award from the California Art Club’s 88th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition, as well as the First Place award at the Cincinnati Art Club National Juried Viewoint Exhibition. He has been featured in Southwest Art Magazine, American Artists and Art Talk Magazine. His works adorn the collections of Bowers Museum, CA; Mission San Juan Capistrano, CA; Oliver; Museum of Jilin, China; and Bakersfield Museum of Art, CA. Among his many commissions, is the portrait of Cardinal Roger Mahoney, which hangs in I Santi Quattro Coronati, Rome. Wang has also hosted several Plein Air Painting Workshops in his homeland China for artists and art aficianados.
