Rene Jansen

Rene Jansen was born May 3, 1956 in the Netherlands. From an early age, Rene was exposed to art by his father, an art teacher at the local school. As a child, Rene was seldom without pencil and paper, drawing what he saw in nature. At age eight, Rene's grandmother presented him with his first set of oils. "I was to try my hand at colored composition. I was hooked from that moment on. I always knew that I wanted to be a painter," relates Rene. However, Rene's parents did not support Rene's aspirations. Upon completion of high school, he was encouraged to attend teacher training school. His father used to tell him, "the life of a painter is insecure. You had better choose a real profession." Six months later, Rene was enrolled at the Minerva Academy in Groningen. From 1978 to 1983, Rene was studied under the expert tutelage of Piet Pijn and Matthijs Roling. It was Roling who introduced Jansen to the world of still-lifes. Rene now is an established artist in the Netherlands and throughout Europe. Ella Walton Richardson Fine Art Gallery is pleased to be the exclusive American exhibitor of Rene Jansen's work.
