A Newburyport native, Robert Scott Jackson received his undergraduate education at the University of New Hampshire. His post graduate work continued at the Vesper George School of Art in Boston, where he graduated first in his class in1969. Further study continued with RH Ives Gammel and Robert Douglas Hunter, both �oston School?masters of renown, and with Sidney Willis of Bennington, NH.
Jackson� painting style of �cademic realism,?is rooted in the traditions established by his 18th and 19th century European forebears. This technique is best demonstrated in Jackson� classic still life and portrait paintings. His finely painted oil landscapes also reflect this stylistic background. The influence of the American Impressionist movement can be found in Jackson� work - most notably in his pastels, which demonstrate his virtuoso mastery of the medium. After working primarily in pastels for a number of years, Jackson has once again returned to explore the opportunities presented by the medium of oil. A recent collection of landscapes is characterized by a boldness of palette and composition. These works resonate with an atmosphere of both calm and undeniable power, revealing Jackson� reverence for the physical world around him.
Jackson is a member of such renowned art groups as The Academic Artists of America, The Copley Society of Boston, of which he has achieved the status of �opley Master,?The Springfield Art League, The North Shore Art Association and The Salmagundi Club of New York City, which is the oldest art club in the United States.
Jackson� paintings are included in private and corporate collections throughout the United States. The Churchill Gallery has been proudly representing the work of this distinquished artist since 1983.
