C.M. Cooper

Though born and raised in southern California, it was her early European travels that greatly inspired C.M. Cooper’s artistic pursuits. Her great fortune to live and paint in Paris for a period of time contributes to the expressive elements seen in her paintings today. After acquiring a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, she pursued a career in advertising as a fashion layout artist, as well as freelancing as an editorial illustrator. Her continued education included an advanced standing in the Masters Program at Associates in Art and nearly four years of studies with Joseph Mendez. Cooper feels that she has blessed in her career to have observed the technique of many highly respected artists, including Howard Terpning in the only Masters Class he ever offered, and more recently, Everett Raymond Kinstler.

After six years of teaching art, including her devotion to a small private art school for budding young artists, Cooper now dedicates herself to the continued exploration of her own artwork. She considers herself to be a “contemporary traditionalist,” painting classical subject matter in a more contemporary, alla prima style. Her paintings have won numerous awards including the Director’s Choice Award at the California Art Club’s 92nd Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition. Cooper was featured in "Southwest Art" magazine in November of 2003 as one of the most talented artists in the contemporary national arts scene. Through her memberships in the American Artists Professional League in New York, the Oil Painters of America, and the California Art Club, she is a consistant participant in many annual exhibitions.
