      My abiding interest is in painting still life, and that interest has to do with a fascination and wonder at looking at things closely, about feeling awe at the lushness and complexity of the visual world . I want to paint the moment when I look at something that's so complex that it initially registers as a jumble of color and pattern, but as my eye focuses, I can see the component parts emerge in absolute clarity.
