Willem Verhulst

Willem Verhulst was born in the Netherlands in 1948 and immigrated to Canada in 1954. He received his education at the ontario College of Art and Design (AOCA, 1971), University of Guelph (BA, 1972) and University of Toronto (BEd, 1976). For many years, he was a teacher of art in Guelph, ontario. Presently he resides and paints full time near Tweed, ontario. Of his work it has been said: “These paintings inspire vision. We experience that mysterious click of recognition as the world registers in our hearts and minds, suddenly in focus... transforming what is always available and commonplace into the rare and beautiful.” (George Miller) Present in his work is “the rendering of those exact and fleeting moments when light, air, water and perspective provide us with a sense of timelessness beyond our momentary daily existence... An empty road leads to a dense gathering of bush. Trees become players on a pastoral stage. Metaphors manifest themselves.” (Robert Windrum) Verhulst's paintings hang in numerous private, corporate and public collections in Canada, the U.S.A., Europe and Japan.
