Nancy Balmert divides her time between Houston Texas and her hometown, Seattle Washington.

After raising two sons and completing her Masters Degree in Studies of the Future, Nancy took up painting. She’s studied under the Texas State Artist, Dalhart Windberg for more than a decade. Windberg’s pastoral scenes and distinctive style have made him one of the most popular artists in the world.

Nancy has cultivated a strong reputation in the international art world, having received critical acclaim for her large floral paintings. In June, in Mantua, Italy, she was honored with the International Prize Artist of the Year 2019.

Painstakingly following the style of the Old Masters, such as Rembrandt and Caravaggio, Nancy employs the technique of lighting for effect. In her works, she creates what she calls “soft edges” and uses the intensity of the pigment to cause the subjects of her paintings to advance and recede.  She combines the very best pigments available with a medium to produce works that will last literally for centuries.

The result are modern masterpieces, sophisticated in execution and stunning in effect. Ruthie Tucker, Curator at the Amsterdam Whitney International Fine Art Gallery, New York, described Nancy’s works: “Capturing bright hues of light and color with remarkable forcefulness…each flower emerges to become dynamic, expressive and electrifyingly lifelike."

Salvatore Russo, one of the editors of Art International Contemporary Magazine, described her Picasso Canna Lily as “Extraordinary.”

Recently, Nancy has exhibited her works in Rome, Bruges, Belgium, Milan, Lisbon, and at the Museum of Modern European Art, Barcelona.

Nine curators in Europe selected her works to be one of fifty international artists published in the International Art Book, ARTISTI.  They wrote, “Nancy Balmert’s painting leads the observer into the gardens of the earthly paradise, where one can appreciate its marvelous flowers.”

Nancy’s floral paintings were featured in The Best Modern and Contemporary Artists, in 2018 and 2019. Contemporary Art Curator Magazine selected her work for inclusion in their volume, 100 Artists of the Future, published in 2019.
