Galina Pshenitsyna
Galina Pshenitsyna was born in 1940 in the town of Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod). Her formal art training began at the age of 13 when she enrolled in the Johanson Art School in St. Petersburg, later moving her studies to Oreshnikov’s studio at the Repin Institute in 1959. Pshenitsyna’s teaching career began in 1965 at the Art College in the town of Ryazan. The following year she taught at the Art College in Makhachkala, Dagestan, and shortly thereafter joined the Dagestan Artists’ Union. By 1972 Pshenitsyna was teaching in the Art Pedagogic Institute in Makhachkala, and since 1978 has been teaching at the Jamal Art College there.
Pshenitsyna has participated in more than 80 exhibitions. Among them are:
Zonal exhibitions "South of Russia" - 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992
Youth exhibition, Leningrad - 1971
Exhibition of Autonomous Republics, Moscow, Central House of Artists - 1972
Personal exhibition, Makhachkala (over 150 paintings) - 1985
In 1992 Pshenitsyna was awarded the title "Honored Art Worker of Dagestan Republic." She is married to fellow artist Hairullah Kurbanov, and the couple has three children. Artist Arsen Kurbanov is her son.
